If you’ve ever stood on the sidewalk during the Celebrate Somers opening ceremony, you’ve seen the Lions-Scout partnership in its most patriotic form. Every September, BSA Troops 376 and 228 join forces to serve as the official Color Guard, leading the town in the Pledge of Allegiance while the Somers Lions Club prepares their famous "Egg McLions" and hot dogs for the crowd.

This event is a microcosm of how the two organizations function together. The Scouts provide the formal ceremony and manual labor—helping set up tents and manage the "Kids Zone"—while the Lions provide the logistical backbone and funding. This synergy was on full display during the 2025 Celebrate Somers event and the Annual Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting.

By involving the scouts in these high-visibility town traditions, the Lions help the scouts fulfill their "Duty to Country" requirement in a way that is tangible and celebrated. It’s a beautiful cycle of service: the Lions fund the events that bring the community together, and the scouts provide the spirit and energy that make those events possible.
