For graduating seniors at Somers High School, the end of the year isn't just about final exams and prom, but rather, it’s about celebrating a legacy of service. The Somers Lions Club Scholarship program has become a cornerstone of the community’s youth outreach, proving that while grades matter, character and community impact matter more.

For decades, the Somers Lions Club has supported Guiding Eyes for the Blind, helping provide professionally trained guide dogs to people who are visually impaired. Through donations, advocacy, and community support, this partnership has helped expand independence and opportunity for countless individuals.

VISIONS Camp for the Blind has been changing lives for over a century. With the support of the Somers Lions Club, hundreds of blind and visually impaired individuals enjoy summer programs that build independence, confidence, and connection. From sponsoring campers to building facilities, the Lions proudly support this remarkable program.

A simple pair of glasses can change a life. Through the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Program, the Somers Lions Club collects donated glasses from local drop-off locations and helps deliver clear vision to people in need across the U.S. and around the world. It’s a small donation that creates a lasting impact.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, this year’s Adopt-A-Family program brought holiday joy to local families. Special thanks to retired teachers and social workers from Somers Schools and the Somers Republican Party for their extra support, showing what community truly looks like: neighbors helping neighbors and making a difference together.

The Somers Lions proudly march in the Veterans Day Parade and support Veterans year-round. From celebrating local heroes like Lt. Victor Prado to assisting homeless Veterans with housing and essentials through organizations like My Brother Vinny and the Westchester All-Stars, the Lions are committed to honoring service, showing gratitude, and providing hands-on support to those who served our country.

The Somers and Mt. Kisco Lions teamed up to provide free vision screenings for local children, helping detect potential vision issues early. By giving kids the gift of clear sight, this program ensures they get the care they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

On Nov 8, 2025, the Somers Leos braved the 44-degree waters at Rye Playland for the Westchester Polar Plunge! ❄️🦁 Led by student heroes like Gabriel Stor, our crew raised thousands for Special Olympics NY, ensuring athletes with intellectual disabilities can compete all year long. The SHS Commons became a "Kindness Factory" on Jan 28th! Our Leos crafted 100+ handmade Valentines to bridge the gap with seniors at The Paramount Home and to celebrate the teachers who invest in us daily. In a digital world, these glitter-filled, hand-written notes are a reminder that everyone in Somers belongs. It’s about the "Leo Spark"—taking the time to say "you matter." Read the story. ❤️

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Somers Leos gathered at the Van Tassel House to turn a "day off" into a "day on." The goal was simple: ensure no neighbor in Westchester faces the winter without the essentials. What started as a student-led idea by Sean Donnelly, Gabe Stor, and Alex Donnelly grew into a massive community effort. By the end of the afternoon, the team had collected over 30 bags of winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves.
