From sponsoring campers to building facilities, the Lions proudly support this remarkable program.

A simple pair of glasses can change a life. Through the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Program, the Somers Lions Club collects donated glasses from local drop-off locations and helps deliver clear vision to people in need across the U.S. and around the world. It’s a small donation that creates a lasting impact.

The Somers and Mt. Kisco Lions teamed up to provide free vision screenings for local children, helping detect potential vision issues early. By giving kids the gift of clear sight, this program ensures they get the care they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Since 1966, the Somers Lions have partnered with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, helping blind individuals gain independence through guide dogs. Members of the Somers Lions and Somers LEOs took on the Mudd Run at Thunder Ridge Ski Area to support the United States Association of Blind Athletes. Led by Lion Vinny Papa, the group raised $2,000 for programs that provide sports opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Service sometimes means getting a little muddy.

After a life-changing brain tumor surgery in 2009, Timothy Peterson faced serious neurological and vision challenges. When the Somers Lions Club learned about his story, they stepped in to help, raising funds for his family’s medical expenses. Their support did not stop there. Years later, the Lions continue to stand beside Timothy, helping him move forward.
