Service sometimes means getting a little muddy. Members of the Somers Lions Club and the Somers LEO Club rolled up their sleeves and took part in the Mudd Run at Thunder Ridge Ski Area to support the United States Association of Blind Athletes, a nonprofit that provides competitive and recreational sports opportunities for children, adults, and veterans who are blind or visually impaired.

The connection to the event began when Lion Vinny Papa was approached by neighbor Chris Jordan, a Mudd Run organizer and board member of USABA, who asked if the club could donate tires for one of the race obstacles. Vinny stepped up in a big way. Not only did he donate the tires, he rallied members of the Lions and LEOs to participate in the run and personally pledged to match their donations.
In total, twenty members from the Somers Lions and LEOs joined the challenge at Thunder Ridge, raising an impressive $2,000 for the organization. Their efforts helped bring attention to the mission of USABA while demonstrating the spirit of teamwork and service that defines both clubs. It was another example of neighbors coming together, having some fun, and making a meaningful impact.
