For many individuals who are blind or visually impaired, VISIONS Camp offers an experience filled with independence, friendship, and adventure. The camp began in 1923 when a small group of women rented a cottage in Rye, New York so blind individuals could enjoy a summer retreat. Today, the organization operates a 35-acre campus in Rockland County that serves hundreds of participants each year.

The Somers Lions Club has long supported VISIONS through both financial contributions and hands-on service. Lions have helped sponsor campers and their families and have contributed to the development of facilities that make the camp welcoming and accessible.

Somers Lions members also built a nature trail and gazebo on the property and continue to maintain the bocce court. In 2014, the nature trail and gazebo were dedicated to the memory of Lion William “Bucky” Pope, honoring his years of dedication to the program. Through these efforts, the club helps ensure that individuals with vision challenges can experience community, recreation, and independence.
